Fashion, are there secrets to layering your clothes?
According to Vera Wang “Mix it up; don’t worry about different shades clashing. Layering lends a certain nonchalance. Each element looks better, richer and more interesting when it’s put with something else, so clothes don’t look so serious.”
Want to keep up with the trends this spring and still be warm enough to walk outdoors. Start Layering.
That’s right, combine those different shades that you think don’t work. The whole idea of layering is a thrown together look… each piece looks better and more interesting when it’s put with something that you really don’t expect. Outfits look more fun and funky . Layering clothes is an art… and the idea is to perfect it so it doesn’t look perfect.
Here are some basic tips you can follow if you want it to look trendy PLUS, you probably have most of the clothing in your closets already. If not, go shopping, look in your community stores and boutiques for the little extra’s that make the outfit trendy.
The key pieces to Layering, in the simplest terms:
Start with the thinnest piece of clothing , the one closest to your skin.
Add a thin sweater.
Then your jacket, ALWAYS wear the heaviest garment on the outside.
Try to only use 3 layers.
Vary the materials, styles and lengths to get texture. Add more details in the accessories to make it even funkier.
TRY: A simple oxford collar shirt, a great cardigan open and top it off with the fashion piece – make it a long sweater with a fitted shape so that the deep v front and the shorter length is in the front showing the layers.
TRY: A thin tee with a floral blouse and a leather jacket or thin leather blazer to make a bolder statement.
TRY: A long sleeve tee with a fitted vest and a long boyfriend sweater over it.
TRY: A dressy tank, a sweater and a fur lined vest that hangs down the front ( very trendy)
TIP: Rember not to layer up too many layers… you’ll just be uncomfortable and look bulky.
