Everyone is looking for tips and tricks on how to best spend their money. We’re all  trying to look fabulous, but also keep our wallets looking fabulous as well. Shopping smart is shopping in your community  shops, our boutiques.

The key tip is to shop smart  — shop in your community shopst!

Saving money and time on shopping does not necessarily mean sacrificing your needs. In these troubling economic times, shopping for basics and the essentials in your wardrobe is the smartest move you can make. Clean out your closet . Separate and organize all of your clothes and evaluate the key pieces that you are missing and write them down! It can be on your smartphone or a simple piece of paper, either way make sure you have the missing items written down clearly. That way when you enter a store, your objective is clear and you are less tempted to buy items that may be out of your budget. Admit it, it has happened to all of us.

Do NOT underestimate the power of basics, they are always in-trend. Pencil skirts, simple dresses (think LBD), trousers, blazers, accessories, suits, tank tops, jeans, camisoles, and button downs are the heart of any spectacular wardrobe. We all have these pieces, but what makes the difference between an okay outfit and an awe inspiring one is the quality of those pieces and how YOU put them together. . Think of these basics as investments because they can stretch a wardrobe for days.

Shopping locally in your community shops  is another trick in finding great deals and fashions. Boutiques have  smart and savvy sales staff (try saying that 5 times fast!) that are eager to help. They always know what is in-trend and can direct you.  They provide insight on various ways that you can wear new clothes in ways you never would have thought. Who doesn’t love free and valuable advice?  Not only is shopping in your community shops  satisfying, it is fun, and supports your local economy.

We cannot forget that shopping is FUN! Even when you have a clear goal of what you need, the excitement of the hunt of some new in-trend clothing and then the joy that overcomes you when you find the perfect garment is thrilling. And not only is it thrilling, it’s SMART shopping.

TIP: Try to shop on a Thursday. A lot of retailers post sales from Thursday through Sunday!
